Raj worked with regenerative agriculture projects in East Africa and later helped corporates raise debt to fund decarbonisation. In the process, he saw how nature-based solutions were crucial to solving climate change and this belief was cemented after talking to carbon project developers.
After Wilhelm & I met, we had spoken to over 150 carbon project developers, credit buyers, registries and investors to understand their challenges. We both saw how they struggle to pay communities on the ground in an efficient and transparent manner.
This was becoming a bottleneck to developers bringing projects online, as credit buyers and project investors were increasingly scrutinising community payment mechanisms. This results in a challenge for developers to meet the expectations of institutional buyers and investors, in turn limiting access to capital for crucial natural climate projects.
